Vestibular Disease

Idiopathic vestibular disease is a condition affecting the vestibular system located in the inner ear, resulting in symptoms such as loss of balance, impaired coordination, circling, falling, head tilt, eye beating (nystagmus), and nausea/vomiting. Symptoms can come on very suddenly and can be quite distressing for both pets and their owners.

Drawing inspiration from successful treatments used for humans with BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), our skilled team can perform special positional maneuvors adapted for dogs suffering from geriatric peripheral vestibular disease. The maneovers are non-invasive, guiding them through a series of body positions. As with most conditions, early intervention provides the best chance for a successful outcome.

Even after successful treatment, a head tilt can remain with can lead to neck pain. To alleviate these discomforts, our dedicated team utilizes a combination of manual therapies, laser therapy and acupuncture.

Treatment for Old Dog Vestibular Disease is similar to treatment for BPPV or vertigo in humans
